Team work!

For the past 15 years, we’ve been proud to build more than just construction projects—we’ve built relationships, trust, and a reputation for getting the job done. This newsletter is our way of keeping you in the loop, sharing what’s happening behind the scenes, and celebrating the hard work that goes into every project.

This year marks a decade since Mike Nustad joined MAK Construction! He was hired on as a Project Manager then promoted as our General Manager, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the impact he’s had on our company.
When Marc Kuhn [Owner] was ready to take MAK to the next level, he needed someone he could trust—someone to help lead the company while staying true to its values. That’s when Mike came on board. As Marc puts it:

“Mike is the glue that holds our companies together. He’s the driving force in the day to day. He leads with heart, always putting others before himself, and I’m eternally grateful for everything he does for MAK. Every company needs a Mike!”

If you’ve worked with MAK, chances are you know Mike. He’s involved in nearly every decision, oversees all projects, and knows every employee by name. He leads with respect, treating everyone—no matter their position—as a valued part of the team. He’s like the dad of the company, always looking out for us, answering every call, and stepping in whenever there’s a challenge on-site.
Please join us in congratulating Mike on an incredible 10 years!

Northern Point Apartments

Located in Grafton, ND, is our largest project yet and a prime example of our commitment to impactful development.

About The Project

This 72-unit apartment complex spans 74,854 square feet across two buildings at the corner of 9th Street West and School Street. It also features five detached garage buildings with 112 parking stalls—a much-needed addition to the area. Construction began in October 2024, with an expected 12- to 14-month timeline.

What makes this project so meaningful to us?
It is the collaborative effort behind it. The Mayor of Grafton and city officials approached us with a vision to address a housing shortage in their community. Our team at MAK Capital worked diligently to bring that vision to life—securing the right investors and partners to make it happen.

One of the most exciting aspects? The people of Grafton named the complex! Through a community-wide naming contest, a local high school student submitted the winning name: Northern Point Apartments.

With every large-scale project comes obstacles. Our MAK team along with its subcontractors have had to battle through the winter months. Our very own Superintendent, John Kurtz says, “The project started off very strong, particularly with the site and concrete work, which stayed ahead of schedule.” He gives credit to our excavation crew stating “I’d like to highlight Westlund Excavating. They’ve been an incredible partner throughout the project. They went above and beyond in the Fall to keep everything moving smoothly, and this Spring, they’ve continued to stay on track, maintaining a high level of professionalism, expertise, and excellent communication. They’ve really shown dedication to the success of the project.”

Thank you Westlund Excavating for being an incredible partner on this project!

Northern Point Apartments embodies everything MAK stands for—making a difference, strengthening communities, and bringing big visions to life. We’re honored to be a part of Grafton’s future and can’t wait to see this project come to completion.
