The Race Against Freeze Up
A FEW WORDS FROM OWNER, MARC…
There's something about Fall that every construction worker knows well - the crisp air, the shorter days, and that final, relentless push before winter sets in. This is the season when the pressure is on. Long hours, weekend work, and a race against the freeze becomes part of daily life. Even though most of us have lived here our whole lives, it somehow feels like winter sneaks up on us every year.
Our concrete crews, in particular, are moving fast; pouring slabs and setting foundations as quickly as the trucks can roll in. It's controlled chaos, but it's also what we do best. This time of year reminds us why our team is special. The grit, the drive, the camaraderie, it all comes to life when the clock is ticking.
At MAK, we talk a lot about our core values: Big Goals, Make a Difference, Family Oriented, Tough & Resilient, and Make It Happen. Fall is when all of those come together on the job site. While we often highlight individual team members, this season we want to recognize our entire field crew. Every single person out there is putting in the hours, making sacrifices, and showing up - and not just for the company, but for each other.
Watching everyone pull together during this final stretch before winter is nothing short of incredible. To our field teams, thank you. You truly MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Construction.
Community.
Commitment.
So, what can you expect from Make It Happen Quarterly?
We'll take you behind the scenes of our latest projects, introduce the team and clients who bring them to life, and share industry insights shaping the construction world. Plus, we'll highlight how we're giving back and strengthening our local communities.
Our newsletter tagline, “Construction. Community. Commitment. We Make It Happen.” isn't just a slogan - it's the foundation of everything we do. Construction is our craft, Community is who we build for, and Commitment is what drives us to deliver quality work, time and time again.
We're excited to bring you along for the journey! Thank you for being part of our story - we wouldn't be here without the trust and support of our clients, partners, and hardworking team.
Here's to the next 15 years and beyond!

Project Spotlight
A New Space for Growth, Play & Community

PARK RIVER EARLY LEARNING CENTER
MAK Construction is proud to have completed the Park River Early Learning Center, a project designed to serve the community's youngest learners for years to come. The facility includes classrooms, an indoor play area, and an outdoor playground. This is a space where children can learn, play, and grow safely.
After being awarded the project as the low bidder, the MAK team faced a significant design change, transitioning from a wood-framed to a prefabricated steel-stud building. Despite the added complexity, the result is a durable, modern facility built to last for decades. Leading the project on-site was Superintendent Tyler Zeman, who kept the build on track while maintaining MAK's quality standards.
“Tyler did a great job maintaining quality while expediting processes to complete the project in a timely manner. He truly made it happen.”
– Matt Rusk, Project Manager, MAK Construction
We'd also like to thank School Superintendent Aaron Schramm for his patience and partnership, and our subcontractors, Samson Electric, Integrated Steel, and Precision HVAC, for their exceptional work.
“Working in Park River was a great experience. The people were kind, the community was supportive, and seeing their excitement at the grand opening was incredibly rewarding for our team.”
– Matt Rusk, Project Manager, MAK Construction
Partner Spotlight
Widseth is a full-service architecture, engineering, environmental and surveying firm serving the Upper Midwest. They support projects from concept to completion, designing buildings and infrastructure to make communities better. We're proud to highlight Widseth as a valued partner whose expertise and collaboration have been key to our success.
“Widseth has been outstanding to work with. They're a group that often works behind the scenes but truly set the tone for project success.”
– John Kurtz, Project Manager, MAK Construction
We've had the pleasure to team up with Widseth for quite a few projects, and their team consistently meets critical deadlines for plan completion, permitting, and coordination, all while maintaining great communication and responsiveness throughout the pre-construction process.
“Their willingness to discuss materials, finishes, and constructibility has been a huge help in keeping the projects on track.”
– Spencer Hruska, Estimator, MAK Construction
Thank You, Widseth, for being an essential partner in our work!
MAJOR MILESTONE - GRAFTON RIBBON CUTTING
This Fall, we celebrated the official ribbon cutting for Northern Point Apartments - our workforce housing development built by MAK Construction and proudly supported by the City of Grafton, MAK Capital, and Marvin Windows.
Thank you to all who attended and Mayor West for joining Marc Kuhn and our General Contracting Project Managers, John Kurtz and Cody Zeman, as we marked the start of a new chapter for the community.
Move-ins for Building One began November 1st, with Building Two following right behind on December 1st.
NOVEMBER CHARITY DRIVE
We're more than builders; we're community members who believe in lifting others up. Helping those around us and supporting the community we live in is at the heart of who we are.
After connecting with several local organizations, we learned that many of our community's nonprofits are facing an immediate financial need, especially following the closure of Red River Community Action.
To help bridge that gap, we've chosen to support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, an all-volunteer organization that uses 100% of its donations to assist those in need right here in The Grand Cities.
Every dollar raised goes directly to helping our neighbors - and MAK Construction will match donations for the month of November.
Together, we can make a difference where it matters most.
