Emma Basting Project
In December of 2017, three year old Emma Basting was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer that left her paralyzed from the waist down. She and her family lived in a farmhouse outside of Thompson, ND that wasn't close to wheelchair accessible. When they were finally able to leave the hospital and come home, their struggles continued because the farmhouse wasn’t suitable for a child in a wheelchair. Emma also needed 24/7 care and physical therapy in the home.
MAK Construction reached out to Brandi, Emma’s mom, to see what they could do to help. As it turned out, they needed a contractor to take on this pretty extensive project to make the farmhouse wheelchair accessible. We were willing to dive in and do whatever it took to make their house a comfortable home that Emma and her family could thrive in. This was 100% a community involved project with a majority of the time and materials donated.

The first year, 100% of funds raised went to the Emma Basting home remodel project. The 2nd year, 100% of funds went to support the family of fallen police officer Cody Holte and to financially support the travel expenses to his fellow officers who attended a memorial in Washington DC. In 2021, our funds were donated to the Grand Forks Police Department and First Responders (The Fraternal Order of Police).
